Ghada Ijam Named to CIO Hall of Fame

On August 16, Ghada Ijam, chief information officer for the Federal Reserve System, was inducted into the CIO Hall of Fame during a ceremony held as part of the 2023 CIO 100 Symposium & Awards in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
Established in 1997, the CIO Hall of Fame annually spotlights a small group of outstanding IT leaders who have significantly contributed to and profoundly influenced the IT discipline, the use of technology in business, and the advancement of the CIO role. During this year’s ceremony, Ghada was recognized alongside an elite group of CIOs from Johnson & Johnson, Nationwide, Honeywell, Rackspace Technology and ServiceNow, among other organizations.
“I am humbled and honored by the recognition,” said Ghada Ijam. “I am also keenly aware that it would not have been possible without the amazing Fed partners, teammates and tech professionals I have the pleasure of working with. This is a team sport, and I am grateful for the opportunity to coach and work with such talented leaders and technologists.”
Since stepping into her CIO role in January 2020, Ghada has led a digital, cultural and structural transformation of the Federal Reserve System’s technology organization focused on driving collaboration, innovation and greater diversity in the field. From her office at the Richmond Fed, Ghada leads the technology and cybersecurity teams that deliver technology solutions and support to the entire Federal Reserve System and partners with technology leaders across all 12 Reserve Banks as well as national business lines to shape the Fed’s digital future. She joined the Federal Reserve in 2017 as chief operating officer for National IT, the Fed’s technology organization.
An experienced IT leader, Ghada has more than 20 years of delivering results through leading complex initiatives, running IT like a business, and adhering to her guiding principles of integrity, inclusion and intensity.
“Ghada sets clear vision, strategy, and goals to drive her teams to achieve results,” said Tom Barkin, president and CEO of the Richmond Fed. “And her work doesn’t stop there. She also leads the Fed’s Women in Technology Group and supports the local community by working with organizations like Goodwill.”
Prior to joining the Fed, Ghada served as chief information officer and executive IT leader at the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) where she led the company’s customer experience, digital and data analytics strategies and IT centralization efforts. She has also held similar roles at Intel, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
The CIO Hall of Fame honor is the third major award Ghada has recently received. Earlier this year, Virginia Business magazine recognized her as one of Virginia Business’ Top Women in Leadership for 2023, and she also received a 2023 Capital CIO ORBIE Award in the Large Enterprise Category last month.
Congratulations once again to Ghada!
